One of the Society’s core purposes is to determine and ensure the highest standards in all we do. With this in mind, we aim to promote and advance the discipline in accordance with developing our profession.

The Society provides a number of services to develop and enhance our profession:

Chartered membership – CPsychol

Our Chartered membership reflects the highest standard of psychological knowledge and expertise.  It is our gold standard, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and high ethical standards of practice, teaching and research.  Chartered Members are entitled to use the designation ‘CPsychol’.

Accreditation Through Partnership

Accreditation through partnership is the Society’s process for ensuring that quality standards in education and training are met by all courses and training programmes on an ongoing basis.  It is how we reach a view on whether psychology courses are suitable to support students’ achievement of learning outcomes, and are supported by an appropriate resource base.

Professional Development Centre

The Professional Development Centre provides learning and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities and supports members with their professional development. CPD opportunities from the Professional Development Centre include e-learning courses, workshops and conferences.

Psychological testing

The Society’s Psychological Testing Centre (PTC) provides information and services relating to standards in tests and testing for takers, users, developers and members of the public.

Society qualifications 

Society qualifications are equivalent to accredited postgraduate training courses. They are intended for independent candidates who are not attached to accredited postgraduate training courses and wish to take an independent approach to learning.

Chartered Scientist

Chartered Scientist status reflects best practice in science and is viewed as a significant qualification throughout science professions in the UK.

EuroPsy

EuroPsy represents a European benchmark standard of psychology knowledge and skills. It does not of itself confer a licence to practise but can help to facilitate the mobility of qualified professionals across Europe. Society members who meet the criteria will be eligible to apply for EuroPsy at no cost.  More information can be found here.

National assessors

National assessors in health and social care provide guidance to employers recruiting Applied Consultant Psychologists at Band 8c and above.

Register of Coaching Psychology

The Register of Coaching Psychologists is designed  to recognise psychologists who have specialist expertise in the field of Coaching Psychology.

Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register

The Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register is provided by OSHCR Ltd. The register is a means by which our members can demonstrate their professional standing and experience in occupational health and safety. It is freely accessible and searchable by the public, including potential clients.

Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies

This is a joint project between the British Psychological Society and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. It is an accreditation programme for services in the UK whose primary function is to provide psychological therapies to improve the psychological wellbeing of adults in the community.
